In 2013, I embarked on a journey to teach infant aquatic safety after being alarmed by the frequency of childhood drownings and witnessing tragic videos of near drownings across the country. It was a video of a toddler dressed in a blue jumper falling into a pool and then successfully floating on his back that made a profound impact on me and spurred me to take action. As a father of a 9-month-old with a pool in my yard, I knew that I needed to enroll my child in a program that offered the same skills as demonstrated in the video. However, I found that the nearest instructor was 100 miles away, and thus, decided to become a certified Infant Swimming Resource (ISR) instructor to address the lack of access to proper infant swim and self-rescue training in the Coachella Valley.
Since 2014, I have had the opportunity to teach ISR to thousands of children in the Coachella Valley. Witnessing the growth of my students' confidence and seeing them conquer their personal obstacles in the pool is my biggest joy. Though some children come to their first lessons with uncertainty, due to previous negative experiences or new environments, it is magical to see them overcome these barriers and achieve milestones. Being a part of these moments and having the trust of dedicated parents is a blessing, and I cherish every student and their achievements.
Founded in 1966, Infant Swimming Resource (ISR), with it's Self-Rescue® program, is nationally recognized as the safest provider of survival swimming lessons for infants and young children. With over 55 years of research and development, highly trained certified Instructors committed to safety, and a proven history of success, parents can rest assured that their children are receiving the best possible instruction in the world today.
Real certified ISR instructor WILL NOT THROW YOUR CHILD IN TO THE POOL. Unfortunately videos have been going around on various social media platforms of non certified swim instructors aggressively teaching children what they believe to be a safe method of swimming. Those methods are not only dangerous but they also can lead to traumatizing children with a fear of swimming. These methods are completely against everything that ISR stands for.
Not only will your child be safe within my program but you will also be present the entire lesson to ensure the level of care is up to the utmost highest standard set by my company. It can be scary to see your child cry for you while learning to swim but there is a difference between a controlled environment and a chaotic potentially dangerous situation. If you are not certain please feel free to schedule a sit in to watch another childs lesson live.
"Our 2.5 year old daughter went from sinking like a rock to jumping into the deep end on her own, immediately floating, then swimming herself to safety."

"My little one was about 7 months when he started. David takes the time to explain the process and make sure I was comfortable with it all also. Seeing the progress over the weeks is a relief. Knowing that my little one has the experience if he ever needs it."
-Connie C.
"David took a lot of our initial fear of what infant swimming entails and not only exceeded expectations but he was very gentle and informative which brought peace of mind knowing my daughter was in the right hands. Thank you David for teaching our little one how to survive."
-Art A.
"David has been phenomenal since the very first day we met him. His persistence, coaching, and patience with our child (and every other child that we’ve seen work with him) has been what any Parent could/hope for. He is the reason our son respects the water, pool, and has gained the strength to have a strong swim to float. Having David as our child’s instructor and educator in the water has been the best decision we have made."
-Karla O.
"David was very patient with our little girl and she learned very quickly from his instructions, she enjoyed every moment of it, she has her dad pretend at home to be David. She is the one who benefited from having him as an instructor and we are at peace that she knows how to be safe in the pool."
-Leslie B.
"David is a true professional and connects very well with kids, it’s amazing to watch him get them through the most challenging parts of the process with such grace"
-Cristina C.
"I can't recommend this program, and specifically David Heil, highly enough. I had heard good things about ISR but I had no idea how incredible it was going to be for our 2.5 year old daughter. It's definitely a commitment, but what is more worth the time and energy than the safety of your child?"
